Pharmacy

The Community Access Pharmacy, operated by Primary Health Care, Inc. since April, 2004, is designed to assist Health Access Partnership patients who lack prescription drug coverage in obtaining low cost pharmaceuticals. The CAP Pharmacy is the result of a community wide effort to improve patient access to medications. The Health Access Partnership was instrumental in establishing the conceptual framework and in obtaining HCAP funding for start up operations. Other key players included Lorrie Jagiello, R.Ph. who was the pharmacist in charge at the CAP Pharmacy during its first year, Drake College of Pharmacy who provided technical expertise, along with Mid Iowa Health Foundation who provided additional start up funding.

At this time, those who lack prescription drug coverage and are a patient of Primary Health Care, Inc., LaClinica, or Proteus, are eligible for the following services:

  • Low cost alternative for pharmaceuticals (up to 80% off regular retail price)
  • Full time staff designated to assist patients with completion of the pharmaceutical manufactures’ Patient Assistance Programs applications and other paperwork necessary to receive pharmaceuticals directly from the manufacturer as part of their indigent care program
  • Educational offerings such as diabetes/glucose monitoring, nutrition and medication counseling offered in coordination with Drake College of Pharmacy
