Healthcare Coverage for Kids Coalition (HCKC)
Healthcare Coverage for Kids Coalition (HCKC) coordinates efforts to educate and assist Polk County families in securing and maintaining healthcare coverage for uninsured and under-insured children.
Our members represent faith based organizations, public health and social service organizations, schools, hospitals and foundations. The activities of our group include advocacy and system improvement, case finding, community education, linkage building and consumer education.
Some recent accomplishments and activities of the coalition include:
- Coordination and support for community and legislative initiatives
- Presentations to consumers at many community events such as health fairs and social service association meetings
- Providing direct assistance to applicants enrolling in Medicaid and/or hawk-i
- Building collaborations with key stakeholders such as school nurses, hospital personnel and human resource professionals
- Development of consumer education materials, such as the recent What the Health packet and accompanying CD
